About the network

The Policy Argumentation Network brings together practitioners and researchers from the fields of policy-making, argumentation theory and argument visualisation. The network is organized as an online community of practice focusing on the role of technology in supporting the use of arguments in policy processes. Members of the network reflect the diversity of legislation processes and participation cultures across Europe.

The network is sponsored by the IMPACT project, a European R&D project developing tools to identify, analyze, model and visualise arguments in policy deliberations. Members are invited to share their views and experiences and are provided with up-to-date information from the field of computer-supported argumentation in policy-making (e.g., about new technological developments, interesting case studies, relevant conferences etc.).

Occasionally, we will also seek advice and feedback on important design decisions in the project. While everybody can read the information shared on the network, only registered members of the network will be able to bring their experiences and views into the development process, ensuring that the tools developed in the project will match their needs.

The network was started in summer 2011 and will run initially until the end of 2012, when the IMPACT project terminates, but once a community of practice is formed, we will together work out how to keep it alive independently.

The project is part of the European Union's 7th Framework Programme.
